Are you planning a trip to Scottsdale and looking for a place to stay? Then you have come to the right place. I just got back from a press trip to Scottsdale and stayed at two fantastic Scottsdale boutique hotels: the fun and funky Hotel Valley Ho and the serene and modern Mountain Shadows Resort.

Before my trip, I spent a lot of time researching where to stay in Scottsdale, from the best luxury resorts to cozy boutique hotels Scottsdale has to offer. So I am sharing my top recommendations and my favorite bougie boutique hotels in Scottsdale with you. To be honest, I wish I could have stayed at all of them. Hopefully, next time.

Hotel Valley Ho

This historic luxury boutique hotel stole a bit of my heart. I am not necessarily an architecture buff, but the attention to detail at the Hotel Valley Ho is astonishing. The resort was completely renovated in 2005 with the goal of gaining status as a Historic Hotels of America and preserving its representative design. And they did a fantastic job. When you walk into the lobby, it feels like you stepped back in time.

Built in 1956, the Valley Ho Hotel is part of the history of Scottsdale. Designed by star architect Edward L Varney, Jr., the hotel is an iconic example of mid-century modern architecture. Back then, it was a favorite for Hollywood stars to enjoy a few days of peace and quiet. Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner even celebrated their wedding reception at the Hotel Valley Ho. Other notable guests included Tony Curtis, Clark Gable, Carey Grant, Bing Crosby, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, Marylin Monroe, and Zsa Zsa Gabor. She has a wealth of knowledge and fun facts about the hotel, its architecture and Scottsdale.

I enjoyed a Tower King Suite, and it was absolutely stunning. With 900 sqf, it was probably one of the largest hotel rooms I have enjoyed. Equipped with a full kitchen, living room and bedroom, a spacious shower, washer & dryer, and a separate dressing room, the suite had simply everything. I loved the colorful mid-century modern furniture and the bright yellow kitchen was so fun! Oh, since they are dog friendly, I hope I can bring Robby with me next time. He would love this place!

The Hotel Valley Ho is famous for its fun pool parties with resident DJs every weekend. Enjoy the music, sip some cocktails, and have a good time! If you prefer a quiet afternoon by the pool, you can do that too at the OHasis Pool.

Don’t leave this hotel without eating at least once at ZuZu. I had breakfast there twice and both meals were fantastic. Breakfast menus often feel a bit uninspired, but Chef Russell LaCasce added some fun and unusual items. I tried the John Berry, a plate of perfectly cooked veggies with tomato sauce and the most scrumptious sourdough bread. A delicious and healthy way to start the day! I also enjoyed the breakfast fried rice with turkey sausage and veggies. The two eggs were cooked perfectly and oozed all over the rice, exactly how I like it.

If you are looking for a funky, vibey, and fun place to stay in Scottsdale, then the Hotel Valley Ho is a fantastic choice. I can’t wait to come back!

Mountain Shadows Resort

I spent the second part of my stay in Scottsdale at the Mountain Shadows Resort. This gorgeous property is located literally in the shadow of Camelback Mountain and offers stunning mountain views from its property. The retro-modern minimalistic style with a grey/white/chrome color scheme gives the hotel a cool and serene atmosphere. It fits perfectly into the desert city.

My room was very spacious and looked out over the central lawn. From my balcony, I had a fantastic view over Camelback Mountain. What a treat! While minimalistic in design, the room had everything I could wish for, including a dreamy soft King-sized bed, workspace, huge TV, Keurig coffee maker, mini bar, a large walking shower (in the middle of the room), a cozy robe and luxurious toiletries.

The hotel offers a 4000 sqf fitness studio and various fitness classes each day. The yoga class (weather permitting) takes place on the central lawn with a view of Camelback Mountain. What a spectacular spot for a yoga session, don’t you think? I didn’t have time to lounge at the pool, but I loved the quiet atmosphere. If you want to lounge, relax, sleep, and cool off with stunning views, this is your hotel.

If you are into golf, this might be your hotel. Mountain Shadows has direct access to The Short Course, an 18-hole golf course named “Best Par-3 Course in America” by Golf.com.

I enjoyed a delicious brunch at the Hearth ’61 restaurant, which serves all-time American favorites with a modern twist. I enjoyed the light and fluffy ricotta pancakes with a banana drizzle. What a sweet way to start the day! But my favorite dish was, by far, the Shrimp and Rice Bowl. I know this doesn’t sound much like a traditional brunch dish, but it was delectable! The shrimp were grilled perfectly, and the sweet and spicy chili sauce had a nice little kick to wake up my tastebuds.

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, and visually stunning hotel with a cool and minimalistic design, then Mountain Shadows is your place.

The Scott Resort & Spa

While I did not stay at The Scott Resort & Spa, I had lunch at their fantastic Canal Club restaurant. It is definitely on my list of places to stay on my next Scottsdale visit. The decor of glitzy-glamour meets colonial is stunning and an Instagrammer’s dream. As a dog mom, I love that the hotel is pet-friendly. Maybe on my next visit, I can bring Robby?

The location of The Scott is also very convenient. Just a few minutes from the heart of Old Town and Fashion Square Mall, you’ll be in a perfect spot to explore Scottsdale and beyond. Do you like to explore by bike? Then check out one of their retro-chic beach bikes and get to your favorite spots in the city in no time.

Are you looking to get pampered? Then the La Vidorra Day Spa will not disappoint. In a cozy revival mission-style ambiance, you can relax, unwind, and enjoy the simple pleasure of doing nothing.

Hotel Adeline

Situated in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, Hotel Adeline is within walking distance of some of the most fabulous restaurants in Scottsdale as well as Scottsdale Fashion Square. When I researched hotels in Scottsdale, the location was a big point for me, so this one hit the spot.

Guests that stay at Hotel Adeline will be treated to state-of-the-art facilities. The atmosphere is fun and retro, with a colorful and laid-back twist. Lounge on one of the private cabanas to catch a tan by the 3000-square-foot zero-edge pool. Grab a cocktail at the Freestyle Pool Bar while dancing to the best beats at the Liquid Sunshine Seasonal Pool Party. End your evenings with a fabulous meal in the Selfmade Signature Restaurant. Doesn’t that sound like a fun and funky desert getaway?

Choose from a selection of 213 lavish guestrooms, each uniquely designed with contemporary finishes and sleek decor. All spaces are equipped with either king-sized or extra-long double beds, flatscreen TVs with cable channels, a spacious closet, air conditioning, and a private ensuite bathroom with complimentary toiletries. 

The Hotel Adeline prides itself on having ADA Accessible Options for all guests with adjustable facilities and amenities, including a raised toilet seat, etc. All rooms are pet friendly, so bring your fluffy friend along to the trip away in Scottsdale.

ADERO Scottsdale Resort

For a stay unlike any other on this list, you need to check out the outstanding ADERO Scottsdale Resort. Surrounded by rugged Four Peaks Mountain and perched up on a hill overlooking the Sonoran Desert, this property takes immersing yourself in nature to a whole new level.

The award-winning facilities at the Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa are unlike anything you’ve ever seen at a hotel before. Book yourself a massage treatment at the hotel’s spa, designed to create ultimate relaxation with natural products to relieve tension. 

Bathe in the outdoor swimming pool gazing out over the Arizona desert. Indulge in an American-influenced meal with a hint of Asia at Elements Restaurant. Afterward, pop up to the Jade Bar for a tasty nightcap as the sun slowly goes down.

Although the on-site dining options are hard to beat, for something a little different, the Le Sans Souci French restaurant is just a few minutes away.

Placed on a golf course at Eagle Mountain, this boutique hotel in Scottsdale is a peaceful desert retreat. It is ideally located to explore the best of Arizona’s nature. Tranquil spaces like Rio Montana Park are a short drive away.

Drive around the Eagle Mountain Golf Course, crafted to PGA Tour standard, before ending your round at the Grille Restaurant, located on the 18th hole. A spacious outdoor swimming pool awaits on the days you don’t feel like doing anything. Or pamper yourself at Mountainside Spa, where you can choose from a range of relaxing treatments. With only 37 rooms, the Inn At Eagle Mountain is the smallest but coziest option on the list. Enjoy the toasty fireplace, astounding golf course views enjoyed with a coffee from your Keurig coffee maker, and Arizona-influenced furniture, creating that homey feeling you crave when you’re on vacation. Make use of your complimentary bubbles and run your own private whirlpool spa tub. 

No matter which of these Scottsdale boutique hotels you choose for your stay, you am sure you’ll have a fantastic time. There is no bad choice on this list, simply preferences on style and location.
