“Very nice pool, good breakfast, nice room with a great view, very friendly staff”
This is one of our top San Diego weekend getaways mostly because of the Marquis’ hotel pool and stunning grounds.
Located on the San Diego waterfront, the Marriott Marquis overlooks a picturesque private marina. One of the hotel’s top draws is its two heated free-form meandering outdoor pools, spas, and children’s pool surrounded by lush tropical landscaping. The largest pool is reserved for adults only.
There’s plenty of seating around the pools but private cabanas can be reserved for a fee.
Walking paths on the property wind through a host of other water features like fountains, streams, and waterfalls. One of our favorite features of the property are the many fire pits scattered throughout the grounds. Not to mention, nighttime views here are absolutely magical.

“Relaxing, luxurious and truly one of my very best hotel experiences! We love the Fairmont hotels!!”
A top luxury San Diego hotel, the Fairmont is an absolutely beautiful inland Del Mar resort. It’s renowned for its premier resort spa, one of only 60 Forbes five-star rated spas in the world.
This beautiful resort sports four stunning outdoor pools heated to 81 degrees. There’s an adults-only relaxation pool and a main pool with surprise… underwater music. How unique and relaxing is that?
But, not to be left out, kids have their very own pool with a wading area and white-sandy play spot. Plus the glowing fire pits as the evening settles in make this hotel resort pool experience even more unforgettable.

Guests at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar can order drinks and snacks from their pool loungers, or dine and imbibe at the outdoor pool bar. If you really want to live it up, relax in a shaded cabana with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, chilled mineral and sparkling water, a variety of sodas, seasonal fresh fruit, snack platters, or ice cream from their own Grand Sweets.

📍Fantastic Location
Volker – Stayed Sep 2022:
“Very chic, modern furnishings. The rooftop bar with pool is a dream.”
I have to admit I have a fascination with urban hotel pools. Especially when they’re located on the roof!
If you’re wanting to stay in the heart of San Diego’s bustling Gaslamp Quarter and you’re into boutique hotels, then Andaz is for you. This Hyatt family property located in a historic 1913 building radiates California cool. It’s within walking distance to many of downtown’s most popular dining and area attractions including MLB’s Padres at Petco Park or just a short drive to the San Diego Zoo.
Andaz’ hip 7th-floor rooftop pool fits the urban scene to a T. The lap pool is perfect for swimming and with the fitness center located on the roof as well, it’s perfect for a refreshing cool down after a good workout. This is easily one of the top rooftop pools in San Diego!

There are comfortable loungers and umbrellas encircling the pool along with a fire pit. A trendy rooftop bar with stunning city and ocean views adds to the ambiance. Daylight hours provide guests an ideal place to sun and relax. Evening brings a lively party vibe. Stylish and plush poolside cabanas can also be reserved in advance.

Matthew – Stayed July 2020:
“Beautiful location. Grounds are kept very nice. Room was really clean. Access to the beach and pool are amazing.”
The legendary Hotel Del Coronado has been delighting guests at its magnificent regal resort since 1888. Situated on a stunning beach fronting the Pacific on Coronado Island, this timeless queen of the waterfront is undoubtedly one of the best pools in San Diego. Plus, the Del is now a member of the Hilton San Diego family of resorts.
The newly renovated cabana pool is lovely. But their most impressive feature is easily its location, surrounded by swaying palms with Pacific beach view vistas.

Guests can enjoy shaded chaise lounges and umbrellas on the main pool deck, or reserve a pool cabana or cabanette. Even better yet, enjoy a craft cocktail from the comfort of your private cabana or lounge chair from the Sun Deck Pool Bar.
It doesn’t get any better than a luxury experience surrounded by such incredible splendor… and fascinating history.

“Beautiful property, the staff is wonderful, responsive and professional.”
If you’re really wanting a little escapism, head to San Diego North County and book a little getaway at the California Spanish-style Rancho Bernardo Inn.
I had a friend staying here for a conference last year and had a chance to explore the 265-acre picturesque country resort and spend some time here. There’s so much to love about this inn, but I have to boast that their pools are simply spectacular.
Our favorite amenity was the spa pool, reserved exclusively for guests with spa treatments. The spa pool features open-air treatment bungalows. It’s a luxurious private pool set among fragrant tropical botanicals that enhances the mood. This heated saltwater pool with a saline waterfall whirlpool is utterly amazing.
Other Rancho Bernardo Inn pool offerings include an adults-only pool and another that’s family-friendly.

💦 Multiple Pools, Waterslides
Grace – Stayed April 2021:
“This is a wonderful place for a family getaway. The pools are perfect no matter what you are looking for, as they have adult only pools, but as a mum to 3, the Splash pool made our whole trip. There is just enough independence for the older kids (11 and 8) to run around and do exactly what they want (water slide, big kids pool, hot tub, water slide) and a perfect “kiddie pool” for my almost 2 year old…and a bar that serves lovely, if overpriced, drinks and food. We had plans to do the beach, but I couldn’t get my family to leave the pool!”
No list of the best San Diego hotel pools would be complete without the mention of Carlsbad’s Omni La Costa. The 600-room retreat paradise with absolutely stunning grounds boasts eight different swimming pools scattered throughout the beautiful resort.
This offers guests a variety of choices and kiddos will beg for more time in a pool they haven’t yet discovered. They’ll especially adore the massive kids pool complex called Splash Landing which includes slides, waterfalls, a zero-entry pool, and play area.
Adults can be reassured that if they need a break or their own space, Omni offers an adults-only pool next to a romantic glow of fire pits, fountains, and plush cabanas. There are also two garden pools with hots tubs for a total relaxation experience.

💦 5 Pools, Waterfalls, Lagoon Pools
Sherilyn – Stayed April 2021:
“This resort was AMAZING! We had the best time with our kids in the pools and the restaurants. The food was delicious and staff was so friendly!”
This lovely jewel of resort in the Mission Bay area close to Sea World is situated on its own 44-acre island. It ranks as both a visitors’ and locals’ (think staycation) top places to stay. It’s truly a private island Shangri-La when you consider the lush tropical grounds, tranquil crystal-clear lagoons, and miles of sandy beach.
If you’re into places with amazing pools, Paradise Point will delight with its five sparkling pools, including one for adults-only. Each grouping of guest rooms, suites, or bungalows has its own pool, though guests are free to use any on the property.
These include a main pool, lagoon pool with fire pits, adult lagoon pool, relaxing meadow pool, and a cascading waterfall pool. Collectively these are some of the best hotel pools in San Diego.
The next time you’re wishing to soak up the California rays without bringing home a ton of sand in your shoes, or the Pacific waters are a bit too chilly for comfort, consider a stay in one of our local San Diego hotels with pool for an amazing pool-centric getaway.
We can’t wait to hear your favorites.
